Flowers & Mental Health

Flowers have always been a passion of mine. As a kid I would make arrangements with my grandmother in her garden and display them all over her house. Now, as an adult, I have the privilege to showcase my passion for flowers at events and through Boon Bloom’s monthly bouquet. My love for flowers also has a strong impact on my mental health and it’s one of the reasons I love making my own arrangements at home for my family to enjoy.  There is something truly magical about having fresh flowers in your home. Not only do they add a touch of beauty and elegance to your space, but they can also have a positive impact on your mental health. The simple act of bringing nature indoors with fresh flowers can have a powerful effect on your mood and overall well-being.

One of the most significant mental health benefits of keeping flowers in your home is their ability to boost your mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. I feel it every night this week as I inhale the beautiful sweet smell of peonies at my bedside before going to sleep. The stress melts away and I feel at ease from simply smelling them. Studies have shown that being around flowers can increase feelings of happiness and contentment, and even help alleviate symptoms of depression. The vibrant colors and delicate fragrances of flowers can create a sense of calm and relaxation, making them the perfect antidote to a hectic or stressful day.

In addition to their mood-boosting properties, cut flowers can also improve your overall mental health by promoting mindfulness and a sense of connection to nature. Taking the time to care for and arrange flowers can be a meditative and grounding practice, helping you to slow down and be present in the moment.

We all know how inspiring flowers can be for a creative. Gorgeous blooms have inspired some of the most famous artists and produced beautiful masterpieces. It’s no question that having fresh flowers in your home can enhance your creativity and inspire a sense of beauty and wonder. Whether you are arranging them in a vase, sketching them in a drawing, or simply admiring their beauty, flowers can stimulate your imagination and encourage you to see the world in a new and more positive light.

So, the next time you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed, consider bringing some fresh flowers into your home. Not only will they add a touch of beauty and elegance to your space, but they can also have a profound impact on your mental health and well-being. Take the time to stop and smell the roses – your mind will thank you for it.
